My Best Grid

This grid is made up of nine separate photos of sour patch that I placed carefully into letters. I like this grid because it's original and fun. I decided to use photos of candy because Sour Patch Kids are my favorite and I love how the colors are so distinct and bright.

History of Photography Photographer

Paul Strand

I really like this photo by Paul Strand because of the texture and pattern of the propeller. The black and white makes the photo more powerful and mysterious because at first glance you can't tell what it is. The lines moving away from the center, bring out the shape of the propeller.

My Three Best Photos

I like this photo because of the bright colors and how the other flowers make a frame around the orange, centered one. I also like how close up it is so that you can see the green seeds that contrast the intense orange. This was taken at the Farmer's Market in Portland.

This photo of a pumpkin stem is  interesting because of how blurry the background is. I like how the circular stem stands out because the photo is in a square format. I also like how the blurry lines on the pumpkin move outwards from the center, focused stem.

I like how the negative space in this photo brings out the shape of the peaches. It also helps contrast the lighting on the tops of the peaches and gives the illusion that they are floating. It takes the eye away from the peaches themselves and focuses it on the shape and layout of them.

Framing Assignment Slideshow

These photos were taken for the first framing assignment. There are fourteen varying shots and two of each. Most of these were taken at the Portland Farmer's Market in the park blocks. Others were shot up at Washington Park, and a few were taken in Olympia,Washington by the Puget Sound.

Inspirational Photographers

Kevin Van Aelst

This photographer takes ordinary objects that people use everyday, and changes them to make different images. I enjoy this photo in particular because it's a regular tape roll that is torn carefully to create an ocean with waves. It is very creative and unique.

Jamey Stillings

Jamey Stillings documented the construction of a large bridge with a camera alone. The pictures are incredible because they capture such an enormous structure. I really like this photo because of the various leading lines, and because of the contrast between the light of the bridge and the dark of the night.

Joseph O. Holmes

This artist captures the beauty of winter. The extensive snow and trees balance each other out. This simplistic photo draws my attention because of the great contrast of white and grey. I also like how the two people stand out by falling below the defined horizon line.

Self Portrait

Emily Fouser took this photo of me during our first project assignment. It was taken outside her house to use as much natural light as possible.
